Terms of use

These terms are between you and Scott Haines, who makes JointSignal in New Zealand. They are not between you and Apple. Apple distributes the app and handles payment; it does not make it and is not responsible for it.
By using JointSignal you agree to what follows. If you do not, please do not use it.
What JointSignal is
A place to record how your rheumatoid arthritis has actually been, and to turn what you record into something worth handing your specialist.
What it is not
JointSignal is not medical advice and does not diagnose anything. It records what you tell it and shows you the patterns. It does not interpret your condition, recommend treatment, or replace any part of your care.
Using it creates no clinical relationship of any kind between you and me. I am not your clinician and I do not see your data.
Never delay seeking medical attention because of something this app did or did not show you. If you are unwell, contact your doctor. In an emergency, call your local emergency number. The app is not monitored, has no alerting function, and nobody is watching it on your behalf.
Some figures the app calculates — DAS28 in particular — are based on joint counts you tap in yourself, not on a clinician's examination. They are labelled that way throughout, and that label matters. Treat them as a record of what you reported, not as a clinical measurement.
Your record, and what it is worth
The app records what you enter and nothing more. It never fills in a blank for you: a question you skip stays unanswered rather than quietly becoming a zero. That is deliberate, and it means the value of what comes out depends entirely on the accuracy and consistency of what you put in.
You are responsible for what you record and for anything you decide on the basis of it, alone or with your clinician.
Subscription
JointSignal is offered on a subscription. Where a subscription applies:
- The price and term are shown in the app before you buy, in your local currency.
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase.
- It renews automatically unless turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours of the end of that period.
- You can manage or cancel it any time in Settings on your device, under your Apple Account subscriptions. Cancelling is done through Apple, not through me — I cannot cancel or refund on your behalf.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under their terms.
- Any unused part of a free trial is forfeited if you buy a subscription during the trial period.
If your subscription ends
Your record remains yours. You keep full access to read and export everything you have entered, for as long as the app is installed. Your symptom history is not held to ransom against a payment, and it never will be.
What a subscription pays for is the ongoing work — maintenance, security updates, keeping the app working across new versions of iOS, and new features. It does not buy access to your own data.
Your data
Everything you record stays on your device. There is no account and no server, and I receive nothing. The privacy policy sets this out in full and forms part of these terms.
Deleting the app deletes its database with it. Export a backup first if you want to keep your history.
Licence
You may use JointSignal on Apple devices you own or control, as permitted by Apple's Usage Rules in the App Store Terms of Service. You may not copy, redistribute, sell, reverse-engineer or attempt to extract the source of the app, except where the law says you may regardless of what this says.
The app, its name, its design and its content belong to me. What you record belongs to you.
Support
Support is provided by me and by nobody else — Apple has no obligation to support the app. support@jointsignal.app, and I will do my best to reply promptly. It is one person, so please be patient.
No warranty, and limits on liability
JointSignal is provided as it is. I do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will suit any particular purpose.
To the extent the law allows, I am not liable for any indirect or consequential loss arising from using it, and my total liability is limited to what you paid in the twelve months before the claim.
Nothing here limits any right you have that cannot be limited by law. In New Zealand that includes the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 where it applies. If you are a consumer elsewhere, your local consumer law rights are unaffected.
Changes
The app will change — that is what the subscription is for. If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them, and material changes will be made clear in the app rather than quietly. Continuing to use JointSignal after that means accepting the revised terms.
Ending it
You can stop using JointSignal at any time by cancelling the subscription and deleting the app. I may end these terms if they are seriously breached.
Apple
You acknowledge that these terms are between you and me, not Apple, and that Apple is not responsible for the app or its content. Apple has no obligation to provide support. If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price; beyond that, Apple has no other warranty obligation. Apple is not responsible for addressing any claim relating to the app, including product liability, legal compliance, or consumer protection claims. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
Law
These terms are governed by New Zealand law. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country you live in.
